I spent the last week and a half on the beach. It was freezing cold but amazingly beautiful. There were even surfers a few times. One really good swell came in and it was nice to watch them but insane to consider going out in that really cold water.
But today I checked out of my beachfront hostel and decided to head uptown, where the action is. I planned to walk about 10 min to the metro station and then find my hostel. Well after 5 min, the bag on my back had tortured me enough and I waved down a taxi.
He drops me exactly where I asked him to, but I didn´t know where this hostel, I booked yesterday, was actually located. I didn´t make a note of the address I just knew it was in this vicinity and figured it couldn´t be that hard to find. (Although a few days ago, I was trying to find it and walked all over and gave up.)
So here I am walking up the street where its suppose to be and I cant find it. Certain Im too far away, my bags and I head back to where the cab dropped us. I get an epiphany to check my email for the confirmation and the actual address and dig out my computer and do just that.
Well to make a long story short, I get there and it was further away than I thought and it was horrible. The guy opened a room for me looked in and paused and said he´d put me in a different room. That was my first red flag. There were many other red flags and I hadn´t even spent and hour there.
I promptly went downstairs to check out. The guy then tells me he is gonna charge me for tonite and half of tomorrow and my friend´s rate for tonite only. I was like NO, I dont want to pay for anything. I want to leave now with my money!!!
After, just staring at him with a very unhappy face everytime he made an offer, he finally proposed that he would pay 10 euro and I would go online and say something good about the hostel so he can get 12 euro from the website. I was screaming inside. It was like he was terrorizing my integrity and I knew he was lying about everything.
But I agreed, I figured, if its just words I can say something that is true and pleases him at the same time.
So I split that hole so fast. Went straight to Kabul hostel, which a friend referred. Its a bit "hip" for me but I just wanted something clean and decent. Well, as usual "hip," cool people suck. They didn´t have a room at all to give me.
I was so tired I just starred at the guy, thinking, maybe he´ll give in like the last guy did. Nope, he wouldn´t look at me and he was to cool to care. I was about to wander the streets and take the first place I could find, but I dreaded another hell hole. But then I asked if there was anything he´d recommend and he did.
I shot straight over and checked it out. The only thing wrong with this place is it smells like new paint and I have to find Veronika and bring her all the way down here from the other place.
Man what a day, but I´m stoked I didnt stay there and I am no right in the gothic area and its so nice.

Hey Kelli: I'm glad you didn't blow away! I read that there were high winds in Barcelona last week and that a building had actually crashed. We had high wind watch here last week -- they even closed the schools, but thankfully it didn't pan out. I think a lot of prayers were answered.
Your adventures remind me what a luxury it is to know where your are going and how to get around. But it is an incredble accoplishment when you are able to do so. Now, to get to know more ono eating places! Gigi
