A Dream of a Bath Mat

Since I moved into my apartment I been planning on putting up a shower curtain. Basically, we have a tub and a shower head and nothing on the floor or in the bathroom at all. So when we shower it literally is a W.C. (water closet). Everything gets wet.

Little things, like stepping out of the shower barefoot on to a dry mat, just have not been an option. But I been dreaming about that little act for so long. Its such a minor thing but for some reason I have set this goal before me and it has been so difficult. When I set myself to something its really hard to change my course, especially as it gets harder to accomplish I keep trying to make it happen.

The first thing was to get some hot water to come out of the shower head. After three times of having the guy come, plus having to use the magical words "swine flu," it was taken care of. Now I have boiling hot water that could cook me alive. (I'm not complaining!)

I bought a shower curtain rod, only to get it home and realize it was too long. I asked some friends if they had a hack saw, but we couldn't find it. :(

So a month or so went by before I could get around to take it to a shop to get cut.

I happily put the curtain on the pole and set it in the fixtures in the wall. But the fixtures weren't in very secure because the screws wouldn't go in all the way and the holes didn't all line up.

So I thought I would screw it in tighter and silicone it for extra hold. Wrestled with the silicone tube for a half hour. (Its not me! It was the cone adapter ... don't get me started!)

So all that done, a day later I finally install the shower curtain rod with curtain and all. Only to find that there is about 3 inches between the bottom of the curtain and the top of tub.

I showered with it up anyway... and the floor was again covered with water.

Its actually quite ridiculous... but I am still set on my goal and because I've gotten this far I'm not giving up now. Maybe I should but I think I can rig up a line to hang from the rod to hold the curtain lower. At least I can have a shower curtain for a little while, until the silicone hold breaks and the pole falls down.

Its the little moments of victory we need to appreciate.
