Arrived at the airport in a surreal state, expecting the ticket agent to tell me my eticket didnt really exist. Instead he spoke to me in speedy arabic and I just starred half asleep at him. "All window seats to Hawaii," he said in english, realizing I was not able to process any more at such a late hour. It was 2am and my journey had begun.
Sat down next to an American man with a southern accent who was traveling with a group all who were from the South. They were working on an oil rig in the Mediteranean for the last month, eager to go home. I slept the whole first leg of the trip to Frankfurt.
Leg 2, eleven and a half hours. Sat next to a scientist who works for Nasa in LA. He works mainly on climate and environment change research. He was working on a project called GRACE. I asked him if it was called that to give room for Divine support on the project and he said he didnt know but they try to make anacronyms that are easy to remember and explain to the non-scientfic people they work with. He also said some scientist have a sense of humor, maybe thats why.
I could see the Fayer Islands, the Shetland Islands, Iceland and Greenland from the Plane. They were all beautiful and amazing. Fell asleep over Greenland for a few hours.
Landed, blessed Felix, the scientist, that his work would be blessed and that he would be able to change the world.
Went through customs and was nervous about being questioned but amazingly the truth is always the best response. "Studying arabic and yes, I plan to go back..."
Lost an hour getting my luggage, but finally met Jessica, my old roomate from Hawaii. She got married and after her wedding she and I both left for our new lives. We met for lunch and it was much too short. Luckily I will see her in December in Hawaii. She suggested I miss my plane and stay for the night, but I was so close to being done with my crazy journey I couldn't bear the thought of dragging it out. I needed to finish my last leg.
Leg 3, there was a huge line at the security... inside was panicing, but the security agent took me to the front and I ran through to the gate. Made it.
This leg was the longest leg of all. It seemed it would never end. I sat next to man who lives on an outer island and we worked well to kill the time by talking about africa, diving with dolphins, and anything we could think of. Praise God for great people to sit next to.
Finally, landed, got my bag and out the doors to meet my ride. Waited and waited and thought to my self, "Did I tell her I was on Delta instead of United?" I had. Went inside, called her and she said she was waiting for the Delta flight to land. She walked down to where I was and gave me a beautiful fragant flower lei. I was so happy.
After 30 hours had passed I was so spaced out it all felt like a dream. It was so nice to be around friendly brown people and feel the trade wind breeze. We got to the house and I was able to stay awake for a few hours before I started to get dizzy from lack of sleep.
Journey to the other side of the world...more to come when I actually have something more substantial to say. :)
