The Latest Taxi Driver Story

I was heading home late one night and grabbed a taxi. He was nice and told me that if I needed a taxi any other time I could call him and he would take me. I told him thanks. I figured it was fine if he gave me his number but I wasn't going to give him mine nor was I going to call him. So it was fine.

He asked the usual personal questions... like where I was from and what my name was. I pretty much avoided anything specific. Not long after he if he can see me again and asked for my number. I just made the clicking sound they make here when they say no. Instead of saying no they just make a noise. So I did that.

I was a little nervous because there was a lot of traffic and we were still far away from where I lived. If he got offended at me he could've kicked me out of the car. But I guess he would lose out on the fare. So I wasn't sure how he would react.

He immediately told me I misunderstood him and that it was so I could call him in the future for business. I apologized to him but still didn't give him my number. There is a language barrier and I'm basically giving you the Eglish breakdown. So its possible he meant to see me for business... shuh!!!

As the traffic began to move he started to say that he was very happy that he picked me up tonite and that any man who marries me will be very happy. I was suprised but just answered Ishaallah (as God wills it). I wasn't sure where he was going with this. Then he said that he hopes someday he will marry a woman just like me. Again I answered the same.

I dunno how or why he would say such things... the ride was not more than 10 min and I didn't say anything to him.

We finally reached my street and I got out a little away from my building. He didn't repeat any requests and I didn't mention it.

But I have to say he was the kindest taxi driver I've had. He could've been complementing me to try to get me to give in... but he wasn't pushy and stuff like they usually are. Or maybe they always say things like that. I've not heard anything like that yet. It was just nice... so I'm gonna take it as that.

It really was encouraging and I felt when he said it it was from the Lord because I had just been praying that I'd be a blessing to those around me, somehow. And I remember all da bruddahs from church who used to tell me that any man who marries me would be super blessed. It was really a shock to hear.
