Conquering the Freezer

Our freezer is tiny and surrounded by one solid piece of ice. Whatever we put in it grows ice on it in a day. I could put an empty ice tray in the freezer and ice would form on it and I'd have it filled with cubes in a day.

I tried to clean it out a few weeks ago and I thought I did a pretty good job but since then the ice continues to grow and eliminates space in the tiny area we already have. Its quite perplexing.

This morning I went in and had some coffee and was just agitated looking at this strange ice creature. I knew that if I let it continue to grow and take over the freezer, it would soon take over the fridge, then the kitchen then the whole apartment.

On that note I went into battle. I emptied everything out, and knew that I had to do it quick because some items were perishable. I went at it, chiseling pieces of ice here and there. I poured hot water to quicken the melting and loosening process.

It felt so good when I broke off a big chunk. Strangely enough it felt like I was performing some symbolic act of breaking myself free from some unseen restraints and oppression. I got more aggressive with my battle as I felt encouraged and could see the progress.

After an hour I finally broke the freezer catchment tray loose. It was a major accomplishment to liberate this valuable piece that was being used as a shield to keep me from attacking the ice monster's underbelly.

As I continued to finish off the beast, I wondered if I was suppose to remove all the ice from around the freezer box. Maybe this ice insulation is suppose to be here to keep the food frozen and it wont work if I remove it all.

I realized this was a Jedi mind trick to get me to leave some of the beast intact to grow back and regenerate itself. If the freezer box needed the ice to be cold it wouldn't have electrical wires running through the box to make the items inside cold. Duh!!!

Doesn't every battle require a mental edge. You can lose a battle just by second guessing yourself. I continued to clear it out and after setting my mind to finish it all off, it only took a few minutes. It was the easiest part of the whole cleaning. To think I almost stopped and left it.

It was the most productive and rewarding morning I've had since I've been in Egypt. Hmmm, I wonder what is next?
