In the Desert

I got a hold of a woman who is friends with a friend from Hawaii. She has been to Hawaii and it was really neat seeing a little things from Hawaii at her house. She had an ukulele and photos of her and her daughter at the beach at Ala Moana. It was really strange and comforting at the sametime.

So her and her husband were going to a conference on the way to Alexandria and they invited me to join them. It was a great day.

I caught the metro to their house in the morning and we headed out to the desert where the church has a property with a bunch of playing fields and a swimming pool and rooms to stay in. It is a really nice place and looks like a resort. Its still partially under construction at the moment but they are using areas that are built and still work on the other areas that aren't. The building with the rooms to stay in is only half done. Half the building is totally a skelaton and the other half is all nice and people stay there. It all depends on the money they have at the time.

A bunch of college age kids were there for a conference and I met so many people I dont remember any of their names. But it was really cool to hear arabic. They actually speak Franko Arabic, Hanan told me, because they throw english words in with their arabic. Some english words they turn into a strange arabic word and create new words. I didnt catch everything they said but I had a general idea of topics as they spoke.

We spent the whole day out there and then half way back we stopped and had dinner. It was cool to eat Egyptian food. Its pretty simple really, its usually like a pita filled with beans or falafel or french fries. That's the usual but I still have more food to explore. I am quite happy with that though as it tastes pretty good.

We got back to Cairo and traffic was crazy so I took the metro back to where I was staying. I was a bit nervous as it was pretty late and I was told to not be out by myself after 8:30pm and it was 9pm. But it was cool actually, so thank God.
