I am thankful to have a job, and I been spending a lot of time at my job. However, I've been able to attend most of the events and parties I've wanted to attend and seen the people I've wanted to see.
I have learned to really encourage women when trying on swim suits. Its not fun to shop for a suit for women. It can be torturous and frustrating. It feels really good when I can help a woman get a suit that she feels good about and feels good about herself. Its huge.
I also took on hours at Pier 1, where I had originally intended to work. When I followed up with them about working I spoke with a new supervisor who told me they didn't need me. Then I got a call back after I started working full time and they needed me and had fully intended to hire me. So I took on one day. I work at 6am and help unload the shipping container. Its pretty cool. We pile all these boxes on a dolly and I have to put them in different stock areas. The items are everything from night stands to christmas ornaments and candles. They have all kinds of fun stuff.
Then after we off load all the merchandise, we open the boxes and get them ready to go out in the store. Its like Christmas and its fun to see new stuff. I love working at Pier 1 so Im glad Im there. I wish I could bring a ton of stuff back to Egypt as gifts but ...shrug... cannot.
I am currently house/dog sitting in a beautiful house with an amazing view of the city and the ocean. I'm watching two beagles and aside from them there are numerous cockaroaches (sousarr!!!!) The first night I got here there was one on the ceiling in the bedroom. I was like, how am I suppose to sleep in here? I just prayed and finally he disappear
ed into the closet. I was happy he was out of sight, but I was still nervous.
A few nights before I was at a friends house and when we came in from the patio I felt something pokey on my neck and moved my hand by it but it was gone. Then I felt it again on the other side of my neck and as soon as I touched it I knew it was a huge sousarr!!! I brushed it off and then freaked out. It was horrible.

So enough said, I am having a bit of a challenging time with the roaches. The house is old and on a hillside that is pretty moist, so they are quite happy here. I tend to see at least one whenever I get home. I am not interested in splattering each one and doing battle chasing them every night. I just want them out of my bed and I'm good.
The two beagles are serious rascals. Nui (big) and Ipo (sweetheart). Nui is the bigger dog and Ipo is the runt. Nui is bad, let me tell you. She gets into everything and anything that has or had food in it. She barks and trys to alpha dog the whole neighborhood and she can even be a bully to Ipo if it comes to food. She doesnt listen at all, even though she hears you call her name and say no. She acts like she isnt doing anything wrong and cant hear you. But if you call her real sweet she comes running for a treat. Thats how I trick them when they are barking like crazy animals at cars or the neighbors.
Here is a pic of Nui trying to get over the balcony and investigating options. Check out the view! Its so nice in the morning and after dark with all the city lights on.
Had some friends over for a BBQ the other night and the dogs were so quick we couldn't stop them from snapping some salad off a plate. And they ate the salad. These guys eat anything. I gave them a little bit of banana peel to see if they'd leave me alone. Nope, wanted more. I was cleaning some grapes and threw them a few soft yucky ones, they loved it. Smart dogs usually but stupid when it comes to food. They should hold out for good stuff.
I did get to go sailing the other day with some junior sailors. I got in a small boat with a kid whose in 7th grade. I kinda felt bad for him having to sail with me, being a grown up and not really cool when it comes to junior high criteria. But this kid was really sweet. Guy, the sailing instructor, threw me some points with him and told him I crewed for John Myrdal in college and I was one of the top crews for UH. I was kinda shocked when I saw his eyes get big and he was all impressed. I thought to myself, really? Ok.
He let me skipper (steer) on our way out and it felt really good to be back in a sailboat. We did some drills and it was really a good time. Here is a pic of the kids from last year from the instructors FB. This is not us...this is what we tried to do but it didn't look so picture perfect, hehehe, just wanted to give you an image of what we do out there.

I found out later that even though he was younger than the other kids he was one of the top sailors in his class. I didnt sail very hard and the winds were really light but my legs were all bruised up from jumping around in the boat and my muscles were sore later that night. Muscle memory doesn't cancel out muscle pain. Bummer.
