Pig Slaughter

The Egyptian government is having all the pigs in Egypt killed to avoid any risk of the swine flu breaking out here. I guess the bird flu has been an issue here and Egypt is ranked third for the most cases of the outbreak.

They have not found any cases of swine flu but they are taking proactive measures. There were riots and the police had to bust out the tear gas. Muslims don't eat pork and the people who have pigs and sell the meat are mainly Coptics.

Its interesting though because there is a vaccine for the flu and you would think a government would try to deal with the virus and not just elminate the animals and the businesses. They said they want to restructure the pig farming to make it better and safer. The change will eliminate the businesses of the farmers and they will have to wait and rely on the government for compensation.

It sounds like a very bad plan, if you ask me.
